Whoa - I can't believe there's only one month left of summer vacation! I'm excited about this year, though. I repainted our classroom and reorganized everything. We're starting a new curriculum this year too, just to shake things up. LOL Actually, for a long time I was a dyed in the wool curriculum follower, so we did Abeka. Now, not that there's anything wrong with Abeka - it's a good, solid, Christian based program. Since we started homeschooling, though, I said that if I had the time, I would write a curriculum that truly revolves around the Bible. Then I found My Father's World which does that, but after two years of that, I felt like I was supplementing so much that I should be writing my own curriculum. I felt that it was too easy for the kids. So, I started searching around for what was out there that I could incorporate like MFW, but was a little more challenging. I found Mystery of History and read through it and I'm in love with it. I took MOH and wrote everything around that - writing, science, geography, handwriting. I'm excited. After much prayer, I think I'm finally where I want to be with our schooling. I love teaching the kids all together. Last year, we had gone back to Abeka for the year because I thought it would be easier than what I was doing with MFW, and as I taught each child their own subject, the others would listen in and answer the questions anyway. I'm looking forward to having everyone together again. We'll see how everything works as my daughter makes her way into the highschool years. She's very self-motivated, though and it will be easy to give her research to do to supplement her learning. Praise God! I love homeschooling.
